The Searching Eye exhibition
You are invited to The Searching Eye, an exhibition I’ve curated that opens at the Peninsula School of Art with a reception on August 9, 3:30-5:00. The artists selected for this exhibition are connected with the school in different ways–as instructors, residents, students. There is beautiful depth to each of their art practices and I've worked to curate some interesting and unexpected visual conversations. You’ll find work that is inspiring and thought provoking.
The exhibition offers the opportunity to see three of Madeline Tourtelot’s films. Tourtelot was the founder of the school and a filmmaker whose experimental technique was, in many ways, ahead of her time, or at least at its forefront. She was truly a visionary and a fascinating person, collaborating with Harry Partch and other artists. A photograph of Tourtelot, attributed to Man Ray, is in the collection of the Centre Pompidou (if anyone knows the story of that photograph, I’d love to hear it--I've tried to find out more about how their lives intersected but have not had success).
Many of the exhibition artists will be in attendance at the opening so it’s a great opportunity to hear more about their work. I hope you can make it.
Thanks to the Peninsula School of Art for the invitation to curate this exhibition, Elysia Holland, the school’s artistic director, and to Julie Jilek, exhibition preparator.
