Sunsetting the Gallery
In May of 2024 I followed my dream to open a gallery, and I’m very glad I did. It brought the opportunity to meet many of you, which I’ve so enjoyed. It has also taught me much about who I am, and who I am not, as an artist.
I’ve discovered that owning this type of business is not for me. While there are parts I’ve loved, there are also aspects I don’t enjoy and am not particularly good at. If only the latter were true, I’d roll up my sleeves and learn to get better at those skills. But since both are true, I’ve decided to pivot in a way that better suits my skills and interests.
I’m leaving this role with a huge admiration for the artists who own galleries. Doing so requires a distinct balance of art and business skills. Our artist-owned galleries help make Door County what it is, as does your support. To those of you who have supported my gallery, I thank you with my whole heart.
The decision to sunset the gallery was not an easy one, but I feel much peace around it.
Making art will continue to be my anchor. I’ll also be working on curatorial projects, teaching workshops, and taking on some consulting work.
The gallery remains open through the end of the Door County season, closing on October 27. Gallery hours through October 27 are Fridays, 11-4, or by appointment.
If you’ve had your eye on one of my pieces, and Fridays don’t work for you, please email me at shan@shanbryan-hanson.com to arrange an appointment. I really love meeting with collectors by appointment so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I’ll be open for the Fall Sturgeon Bay Art Crawl
The last weekend the gallery will be open is that of the Sturgeon Bay Art Crawl on October 25th and 26th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a fun event, especially in autumn, with many fabulous artist studios open for visits.
