July Things: Cicadas, Garden Eats, and Long Walks
One of my small paintings sharing space in the gallery with gorgeous ceramic sculptures by Debbie Kupinsky.
July has been a month of gallery time, long walks, and some good garden eats. We’ve had some hot and smoky days (from the wildfires) but many days this month have been like this:
Wildflowers and grasses at a nearby pond.
High summer is always marked for me by the sound of cicadas, one of my favorite sounds in a favorite time of year. I’ve learned that that cicada frequency is one that can get harder to hear later in life so I’m trying to make a special point to really listen when it arrives for a short time in summer.
Since I can’t photograph the sound of cicadas, I’ll share this piece, in which I tried to capture the sounds of cicadas in visuals. It can be seen in person at my gallery.
Eating from the garden is also one of the best things about July. These garlic scapes were from my dad’s garden and made for some really delicious pesto.
