The Journeys We Take
Between the Leaves, 2025, Mixed media on paper, 14” x 11”, Collection of Bank First
These are two of four of my pieces at the new Bank First in Sturgeon Bay. It’s opening later this month and and Artist’s Meet and Greet will be held at the bank on July 15th. I’ll share a bit more about that in an upcoming email.
Meanwhile, I wanted to post images of these two pieces, created this past winter, that didn’t make it to the walls of my gallery before they made their way to their new home.
Birds have shown up in auspicious ways in my life this past year and as such, they seem to have found their way into many recent works of art.
The title of the piece above is reference to a bird moving in and out of leafy trees and bushes, as well as the leaves of a precious book. This piece like many of my pieces is made of several layers of paper, several “leaves”, so to speak.
They Came From Far Away, 2025, Mixed media on paper, 25” x 37”, Collection of Bank First
There is a bird hiding in this one, I promise. We had a rare bird visit our property last year and with it came many other visitors, bird watchers from all over our state, as well as a few others.
So I had to make a work of art about it. A bird far from home. People journeying to see it. It would come out of the bushes once or twice a day, and cameras would snap away.
In and out of hiding. Performing for the camera. Trying to survive in an unfamiliar climate. Unassuming. Exquisite.
